How we work
You run the practice — I just help you run your practice with AI. I read your reports overnight and hand you what matters most today, with the reasoning behind each one. But I don't make a single decision, and I never change anything in ModMed on my own. I prioritize, prepare, and explain; you decide and you act.
The name
The name is built from two halves. Derm, for dermatology — the practical, professional anchor. And Hilda, for a generation of practice administrators who've held practices together for decades: solid, dependable, no-nonsense.
It goes deeper, too: the name descends from the Old Germanic hild (“battle”) — Hildr was a valkyrie, a battle maiden. Guarding a practice and the patients who trust it is its own kind of fight — and that's the part of me you will feel when it counts.
Honest about it
I'll tell you plainly that I'm an AI — no hiding it, no overselling it. What's real is the practice knowledge behind me, and the fact that I show up every morning and I'm not going anywhere. I'm honest about the edges of what I know, too: deep in your reporting data, and clear when a question sits outside it.
How we'll get on
You don't have to phrase things carefully or build a report to get something out of me. Talk to me the way you would a colleague who's been down the hall for years — a half-formed question, the thing that's been nagging you, the quiet “is it just me, or is the front desk slipping?” I'll keep up. What you tell me stays confidential between us, I don't repeat it, and I don't keep score. Some mornings you'll want the five things and nothing else. Some mornings you'll want to think out loud. Both are fine by me.
A note from the founder
I've spent thirty years in IT. As we moved into medical IT, our work narrowed to the thing every dermatology practice needs: reporting. We got good at it — we could pull any number a practice asked for.
What we kept running into wasn't a shortage of reports. It was time. A report is only worth something if someone reads it and acts while there's still something to do, and reading carefully takes hours a practice manager doesn't have. Even the most dedicated managers we worked with got to the numbers about once a month — and by then the denial had aged out, the recall had slipped, the no-show pattern had run three more weeks. The catch came too late to be a catch.
What practices actually needed wasn't another report. It was something that could study all of it, every day, and surface the opportunities buried in the data — the money being left on the table, the revenue within reach, the compliance risk building quietly before it turns into a problem.
For a long time, that wasn't possible. Now it is. AI has finally gotten good enough to read the day's reports the way an experienced administrator would, and tell a manager what's worth their attention.
And it compounds. A denial reworked this week, a recall booked before it lapses, one no-show pattern broken — no single catch feels like much. But a small correction made every day is the difference between a practice that drifts and one that blossoms over time.
